The Dubai Fountain is animated with light and music show set. This can be seen from any point on the lake promenade and from many neighboring structures. Performances take place at 1:00 pm and at 1:30 pm and every 30 minutes 6: 00-22: 00 on weekdays and 18: 00-23: 00 on weekends (weekend into Thursday, Friday, and Saturday).

The Dubai Fountain was designed by WET Design, a company based in California is responsible for the fountains at the Bellagio Hotel Lake in Las Vegas. The Dubai Fountain illuminated by 6,600 lights and 25 color projectors. The Dubai Fountain is 275 m (902 ft) long and shoots water up to 500 ft (152.4 m) into the air along with a wide range of classical to contemporary Arabic and world music. The Dubai Fountain was built at a cost of AED 800 million (USD $ 218 million).

Name fountain was chosen after a contest organized by the developer Emaar Properties, the results of which were announced on October 26, 2008. Testing of the fountain began in February 2009. The fountain was inaugurated on May 8, 2009 with the official opening ceremony of The Dubai Mall. On January 2, 2010 Dubai fountain length increased to 275 m (902.2 ft).
